Vacation is a time to enjoy yourself, relax with friends and family, seek adventure, and rejuvenate.
Vacation is not the time to be worried or anxious about food and sticking to a particular way of eating.
On vacation, you want to feel:
- Energized
- Satisfied
- Well-rested
- Hydrated
- Positive
To make sure you feel your best during travel and while you are enjoying your destination, here are 3 tips to make that a success:
Tip 1: Be Prepared
- Airport food is either salty, greasy, or sugar-laden and always overpriced
- Pack your own nutritious snacks and meals before heading to the airport
- Bring your own trail mix with walnuts, pumpkin seeds, unsweetened dried fruit, and cocoa nibs
- Pack protein or granola bars to give you stead energy (my favorite is the Peanut Butter and Chocolate Trail Nuggets Pro bar from Trader Joe’s)
- Bring fresh fruit for hydration and pair with single-packs of almond butter or peanut butter
Tip 2: Plan Ahead
- Search for restaurants in your destination before your trip using apps like Yelp or HappyCow
- Restaurants often provide menus and/or nutrition information, so you can plan what fits your needs in advance
Tip 3: Hydrate
- Bring an empty water bottle through airport security and fill it up at your gate
- If you like to sip on something bubbly, order sparkling water with a wedge of lemon or lime
- The better hydrated you are, the less sluggish, foggy, and cranky you’ll be!
