Maintaining Mental & Physical Well-Being: Elle’s Response to COVID-19

I’m not going to lie, the past two weeks have been nothing short of rough. There’s a heaviness in the air—an eerie feeling in the streets—and pangs of uncertainty for the future and for the losses we are all enduring right now.

As a business owner and therapist, you think first and foremost for the health and safety of your colleagues and the clientele with whom you have built a community. Then, how to offer continuity of care.

For our clients engaged in talk therapy and nutrition counseling, it was a question of going virtual. Seeing the familiar face of a client pop up on my screen through Telehealth technology is the best moment of these new work days for which I am growing accustomed. Work days that include an awful lot of dog walking and dishwashing, but I digress. With new clients, getting to know each other under these circumstances feels like it creates a poignant bond over our shared adjustments to a new normal.

But at Elle, we are all about the mind-body connection. We are proud of our ability to teach mental coping mechanisms for life’s stressors right alongside mechanisms for healing the body to anyone with a willingness to try.

Many are intimidated by a yoga class or self conscious about going into a studio, and while we have always promoted a safe, non-judgmental space, now you can reach Elle’s lead yoga and self care instructors, Katie and Kristen, from the comfort and safety of your home—all for free.

We designed yoga & self-care classes that center around the current stressors of the COVID pandemic—coping with stress, anxiety, adjustment, and the development of healthy rest and relaxation. This is what makes self reflection and self-care so powerful: the ability to tap into intentional space and energy that you have right at your own fingertips. At Elle, our passion is to facilitate that capacity in you.

What I’ve become acutely aware of in just under two weeks of an unprecedented life experience is how much we take for granted the most simple aspects of life and how we soldier on. Life changing events offer us an opportunity to discover a more refined perspective on what is actually important in life, achieved when you keep an open mind.

Be safe and well, Milwaukee. We are still here for you.

Emily
